I was contacted by Cathy Shen to name her new jewelry line — unique, handcrafted gemstone rings evoking European modernism and casual elegance.
I presented a selection of names aligned with her company’s values, personality, and story (a branding agency had previously been engaged to conduct a brand strategy).
And she chose: Ma Folie.
I then went on to write web copy and name her initial launch of ring products.
After a discovery session with Cathy, the owner of Ma Folie, I set out to present a selection of names that felt stylish, confident, empowering, elegant, somewhat playful, and authentic.
I began with three categories to focus on while brainstorming names: Garnishes / Ornamentation, Time / Journeys, and Love. Along with the chosen name, Ma Folie, other names proposed during the first round included: Maraschino, Epocha, and Bateau.
ma folie: my madness
Because love is a bit mad, dizzying, and consuming — a madness of the best kind.
Product names were imagined based on this notion of love madness, and include: Fizzy, Blissed Out, Piqued, In the Clouds, Lost for Words, Moonstruck.
